Why don't you have more seating or a mezzanine?
Although we rock, with one of largest viewing areas, it sometimes seems not enough. Unfortunately, as our programs grow, so does our need for technical floor space to run more classes. We must make tough choices of cutting back on the viewing area. This year we have moved our floor space around for better flow and provided the multipurpose room available for parents to lounge in in during classes. The mezzanine option is not off the table but requires a large investment of an elevator, safety railings and secondary stairwell to meet building codes and planning bylaws. If you know someone interested in sponsoring or a donor looking to support our not-for-profit club please have them reach out to our Executive Director at [email protected]
Why don't you have staggered starts?
As much as we understand the need for more staggered starts there is a lot more to planning then you may think. The issue we must first work with is ensuring the technical floor space rotations meet the requirement of all classes. Every class is required under the program guidelines to include floor, bars, beam, vault, conditioning, warm-up & cool-down and trampoline. We divide these skills over two weeks into 15-minute increments. With over 150 classes a session, and getting a schedule that works can be challenging, but our amazing staff manage to pull it off each session. We also factoring training start times to ensure that not all classes leave at the same time. So, the half hour staggered start works the best.
Why don't you buy more equipment?
We would love to buy more equipment, but gymnastics equipment doesn't come cheap. An average vault starts at $5000. A new full spring floor averages $100 000. To fill a pit with all new foam would be over $20 000. One 10 cm mat is $1000. We fund raise yearly to help with matching grants every two years. We also run Casinos through AGLC but they run every 3 years and payouts have averaged only $20k for our zone. We fundraise through the hard work of our competitive families and staff, but we need support of everyone to participate including our recreational families.
If you would like to sponsor a piece of equipment contact [email protected].
Why don't you have smaller classes?
We follow the AGF standard guidelines for coach to participant ratio. In most cases we fall below the threshold already to ensure we provide quality class instruction. The cost to run a program; including overhead facility costs and coaching costs it does not allow us to make groups smaller.
We do offer homeschool classes during the day. A minimum of 4 is needed to create a class. Generally available in the afternoons between 12 pm and 3 pm.
Contact as at [email protected] for more details.
Why don't you have staff on the front desk all the time?
We have provided other means of providing information through easy online registration, calling or emailing our office as well as social media, DGC website and this booklet to help you navigate what you need to know.
We would love to have staff at the front desk all the time but finding people for casual hours and good administrative & people skills is challenging.
If you know someone that may be interested in casual evening and weekend shifts, have them contact us at [email protected]
